Sorry I was unclear. Yes, I meant a scrub vegetation association consisting of low, drought-tolerant (mostly) woody shrubs. Because these are slow growing and loong-lived plants, many species (mountain mahogany, e.g.) produce very hard, dense woods which make excellent charcoal and so were favored as sources of by the early carboneros.
