Hol-
The only problem is that there is very little photographic evidence of the
CB&Q prior to 1900 and virtually ZERO prior to 1880. I have to get over to
the Chicago Historical Society to see if they have anything. I don't know
of any other places to look; the Newberry doesn't have anything that old
AFAIK.
Some areas I'd like to have photos to document:
Illinois Central trains running on trackage rights over the CB&Q from 1850s
to 1895... (all IC Iowa trains came into Chicago on other lines, mostly the
Q, prior to the IC's Chicago, Madison & Northern finally being completed
into Chicago)
Single and double track ROW in Suburban territory....
Western Avenue Yard prior to track elevation.... and the process of
elevation
Pre-1880 equipment National Steel Tube and other iron freight cars....
original standard waycars....various reefers....
Original suburban stations Riverside (and roundhouse!!) Lyons / La Grange
McCook (was there a branch down to the stone quarries there? I've heard of a
freight agent listed)
Aurora Branch/Chicago & Aurora/CB&Q trains on the C&GU / St. Charles Air
Line and at IC Station
Class I Subn Tank Engines in service
Chicago stations... Lawndale, Millard Avenue, Douglas Park, Western Avenue,
etc.
More original Chicago Union Station and coach yard coverage
Western Avenue Engine Facility, Suburban Engine Shed
Chicago, Millington & Western narrow gauge
Burlington South Chicago Terminal Railroad Company
Lumber District and Stockyards
Clyde / Hawthorne / Morton Park / Cicero Yard
Grade and Crossing of Chicago Hammond & Western / Indiana Harbor Belt at
West Grossdale/Congress Park - La Grange
Hawthorne trials of Farnham Third Rail Electrical Distribution System
Gas Electric M/U trails with Push/Pull configuration using Suburban cars
Early Steam, Gas, and Gas Electric experimental
"Camelback" CB&Q locomotives
And finally, the @^(@#^!@*^# Dynamometer Car Z
Charlie
You've turned up so much early Chicago suburban territory history that
virtually nobody living west of Aurora knows anything about -- and probably
very few in the Chicago area -- that you really need to do something with
it! Please!
