Thanks Rich. That certainly suggests some of the cars would still be on the
rails.
I wonder whether they would have used this kind of car for turkeys. It looks
like they were primarily beef and pork.
Others interested in some of Swift's cars may find this helpful as well.
It came up by googling Swift reefers.

Duncan,
I can't find anything on the Swift paint scheme, but here is some good
general information on Rapido's web site:

Any idea about how long these Swift cars were in use?
Swift operated a turkey plant in Keokuk (not sure of dates, but the
building was still there a few years ago.
I've got a couple of steel reefers but would happily add to the fleet if
the wood cars were still on the rails in the early sixties.

Rich,
I'm going from memory here w/o looking at the supporting docs but I
believe
Swift built the plant in 1948. It was still Swift when I had the pleasure
of switching it in the early to mid 70s.
The plant was off the "ice track" which was just east of the "coal chute
board". It was on the south side at the power plant xing east of town. It
was immediately east of Standard Oil. Another place that had interesting
aromas.
