Of course there would always be an "air connection ie trainline"..but the 
question was..."Why the tail hose hanging there in addition to the "ailr brake 
controls" which I would understand to be an air and/or whistle valve inside at 
the rear of the car...IIRC these were located inside the car at the rear end on 
the right hand side (as you faced the rear end of the car).  They were inside a 
"panel" which you had to open up to get to the valves.

blunt end obs were also built specifically to be able to go mid train, so
air connections would be needed

"I'm researching Burlington blunt end observation cars. Can someone tell me
why they carried the tail hose attached to the train line air when the
"Silver Tower," "Silver Veranda," etc., had air brake controls."

Anybody have an answer?
