Hi Stephen;

Just a minor correction, that was Mr. Alex Barkett of Kansas City
that bought the pre-war Zephyrs and sold them to Saudi Arabia.

As a side note, he later bought from Amtrak: Silver Castle, Siver
River, Silver Garden, a former Amtrak/Chessie Cabin Dome Sleeper and
a wrecked Amtrak - ex/GN Dome Coach (derailed at Ralston, NE on
Amtrak #5), all were sold at an auction by his wife after his death.

Interesting topic!

Hubert

Denver on 3 or so tracks, the consists partially uncoupled.
Apparently, when one of the sets was sold to a fellow by the name of
Barclay, if I recall correctly, he was actually given the rear half
of the 9906 consist and the front half of the 9907 consist. The
fellow had seen 3 of the cars in the spring of 1969, if I remember
correctly, that had been sitting under the I-25 viaduct over south
Broadway in Denver, and when he inquired about them, was offered a
whole 12 car consist, which he purchased.

years, eventually sold it and bought the Train of the Gods. Both
this train and the aforementioned DZ consist were eventually sold to
Aramco's railroad in Saudi Arabia where they apparently still are
located.

did not fare so well. It ended up in a scrapyard under the old
Speer Blvd. Viaduct and one car was actually scrapped to its base,
although it remained in the consist. The last I saw of the
Obs/Parlor Car Silver Streak was its nameplate, sitting behind the
concession counter of the Cherry Creek Twin Theaters in 1976, while
the movie Silver Streak, with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, was
showing there. I assumed that, at that point, the car had been
completely scrapped, and thus was surprised to see that it and two
of the non-articulated cars in the front of the 9906 consist (ahead
of the articulated coach-coach-diner) turn up in the Black Hills of
North Dakota.

the current owners want an exhorbitant price for them.
