Even if you were to do a 2-8-2 for the Q - and wanted
to branch out for the Grand Canyon RR, there would be enough changes

The Grand Canyon rebuild would have to be included foi the reasons you
mention. I will not make comments about its appearance.... at least they
kept the number!
If I were calling the shots, the tender would have to be set up for
straight, sloped sides and oil bunker (I disremember right now if O1a s were
set up for oil....but you get my drift) And, I would like to see Elesco
version(s) as well. I don't know if you can get an O1 out of an O1a but
that would have to be "thunk through".
> It's like narrow gauge as well -
The narrow gauge ready-to-run market (at least outside of On30 which is
more of an inside Garden Railway crowd) is an unknown. So far two companies
are jumping in
into HOn3 search of the pot of gold at the end of rainbows caused by dark
clouds..... it remains to be seen if there are legions of people waiting for
an easy way to
get into narrow gauge or if the people in narrow gauge are there because
they get to build everything. Without widely available RTR track we may not
find out.....
As far as the CB&Q 2-8-0, Bachmann went the other way with their G Gauge
outside frame 2-8-0 and sort of did the catalog engine. I, too, have have a
soft spot for the 537 and 538 but am not sure how it would sell vs. the C-16
etc. in On30 or HOn3...or Nn3!.
(some models)....
> command ridiculous prices compared to a
One has to be carefull making decisions based on eBay prices. It only
takes a couple of fools or a small, dedicated group of modelers to drive up
the price of an
offbeat model. They already have their's and the production run has to go
in search of other people dying for such a locomotive that might not exist.
