I recently saw a video titled "PRAIRIE RAILS" by Herron. It was a great
video, one that I will be purchasing. It covers "granger country" on the
Rock Island, AT&SF, IC, and of course the Q. It's a very well done video if
you have not seen it yet.
My question is that there is a scene of a suburban service train with a
Pacific pulling 4 cars. The second to the last car is painted a red (or
marron). Does anyone know what car the Q painted in this scheme? I wonder if
it could be the War Bond car.
Also, I was searching through the Denver Public Lib. files of Otto Perry
photos. There is a photo of a Pacific, 4-6-2 #2849 Train 5 at Hastings in
1935. The photo shows the head light mounted ON TOP of the boiler, not on
the front of the fire box. This is the first photo I have seen with this
style of head light mounting. Does anyone know if any other engines had this
type of mount? I wonder if it was a temporary mount.
