The most confusing aspect, should you go larger than O is scale. There
really is no "G" scale. And there certainly is no "Gn3" as Kalmbach has
lead so many to think. !:32 is the proper scale for the most popular
gauge track depicting standard gauge. That is, the proportion is
correct. 1:29 contains the most readily available, cheap equipment - that
it is not an exact proportion with the track shouldn't bother most, "O"
scale isn't either. Fn3, which is 1:20.3 is the correct scale for the
most popular gauge track for depicting 3' narrow gauge. 1:22.5 is the
correct scale for the most popular gauge track for depicting meter
gauge. The most popular gauge track is referred to in many ways mostly by
Kalmbach as "G" gauge (not scale), and can be bout from LGB, Aristocraft,
and others.
1:29 allows you to have several CB&Q locomotives, they have a decent steel
wide vision caboose, good steel cars, etc. Again, a lot depends on where
(geographically) you have your garden railroad . Once that's known a lot of
the rest can be easily related.
