That's good news that the Walthers ladders and platform railings are accurate
for these waycars. Are these ladders and railings a single integrated detail
part, or several parts? In response to your's and Charlie Vlk's emails, is
there a list of parts and part numbers in with the Walthers model? If so, what
is the part(s) number(s)?
Thanks to both of you for your assistance.

Subject: [BRHSlist] Re: Assembly of American Model Builders Waycar Kits
Hi Scott,
I too have a number of the AMB Q waycars.
I have only started one of them and also purchased the ladder kit
that you mentioned. I did do the soldering (using a pencil iron) but
am not too happy with the outcome. I realize that "practice makes
perfect", but I don't have the inclenation to keep on trying with
what could be an expensive item to keep purcasing....
Any how...I also have the Walthers 4 window Q waycars and the end
rails and ladders look dead on for the waycar, there is a bit of
moulding flashing that you would need to clean up with an xacto
knife, but it still would be worth the time...NOW if we can only get
the hand-rail part from Walthers. I haven't tried contacting them
about that as yet.

with the kits, I bought the Trout Creek Engineering caboose ladders
kit. These are etched brass parts that require assembly. The
directions are definitely correct when they suggest that gluing the
rungs to the siderails using ACC does not work well, and recommend
soldering. I fear use of my large soldering gun is likely to burn
through the thin brass, or at best, leave a messy amount of solder at
each rung. ( I don't have a torch or pencil type soldering iron.)
Not surprisingly, the siderails also get easily bent. It appears to
me that I will face a similar assembly problem with the platform
railing (made from the wire included) when trying to attach the
vertical supports to the horizontal railing.

CB&Q 4 Window Wood Caboose appears to have the correct combination of
ladders and platform railings, although its difficult to see much in
the way of details. Does anyone know if this is true, or have any
other suggestions?
