John,

While I don't think it has been made into a rule yet the usage of
the word "naught" has been against policy for about two years.

"Zero" sounds better to me anyway. Was never a "naught" person
as either an Operator or Dispatcher.

About twice a week they run a empty auto rack train Albuquerque
to El Paso. Isleta to Belen Jct is dark territory so track warrant is
needed. One Conductor in that pool spells out station names. While
the rules do not say you can't do it I find I have to really concentrate
with him. Has some other odd ways of saying things too.

The concept that the repeat is a mirror of the transmit is good but it's
hard to get everyone on the same page. One Conductor Lincoln to
Sioux City talked so fast that you could not follow him on the screen.
The system is designed so that you confirm each item as repeated. If
the repeat is too fast then you are back to working on what you
"thought" was said. That's bad and I had to slow this guy down a little.
After that some of the Conductors in that pool started a "slow repeat
policy". If they thought they were gonna make a point they didn't.
While slow may be boring it is still safe unless you let your mind
wander too much.

BTW, the transmission sequence should be:
Dispatcher: "Ziegler Junction, SD South, 19 copy 3.
Operator: "SD South"
Dispatcher then puts out train order.

It seemed a good idea to confirm the position of the train order and
at the same time say you were ready.

At Cochrane there was only one typewriter and it was on a wheeled
table. If you were using it at the Agent's desk it took a minute to move
it and get set up.
