While the paper doors reduced the "coopering effort" of the elevator and of
course the terminal unloaders job, there was a drawback. The unloaders would
rip the paper portion of the doors out of their way to ease the unloading and
usually cut the steel bands on one side of the doorway.And then the bands
would flap in the wind all the way back to the loading elevator.Woe to the
unsuspecting switchman,carman or brkmn standing too close to the cars as they
went by.
