That's for sure.  I know of one eastern railroad which had removed their steam loco facilities.  They had pumped water from deep in the ground, and were left with only a pipe where the well had been.

NYC and Q shared power on LS-3 westbound, and I believe NY-4 eastbound.  (I'm certain on LS-3, not positive it was NY-4).  Don't know what symbols they were on CB&Q, nor where they went to off NYC.
