Mike,
Since the photos are from 1940-41, Burlington Bulletin No. 57’s roster tells us, the E5s were all built between February 1950 and October 1941.
The photo is labeled correctly as they were brand-spanking new and may not have been to Texas yet and they did do service on the Exposition Flyer out of Chicago to Denver.

Subject: [CBQ] Photo caption help request: FW&D E-5 set
Hello,
I'm trying to catalog a negative and print in my collection, but could use a little help. It was in a stack of images taken in Chicago, so I'm going to guess (someone can confirm) that this location is Chicago. The subject is the E-5 set built for the FW&D Texas Zephyr. The photographer's notes say "The Exposition Flyer." All the images in this pile are from 1940-1941, so I'd assume this undated shot is in that range. My question: Did the 9980A/B set come all the way to Chicago, and would/could this be the Exposition Flyer? I guess I thought those power units stayed west and were handed off sections that were powered by Q engines in/out of Chicago. I'd appreciate an education on this if anyone can offer some insight. Thanks in advance.
