I've been pondering the question of how many cars I should have.   If I have a maximum of 8 trains I could hold in the Aurora station at one time (keeping main 1 open), what would be a realistic mix of consists for those trains?

Thanks!

Don,

Here’s the quick high level overview.

The Aurora switch jobs brought the equipment to and from the depot/Hill yard. Hostler and helper moved locos into and out of Aurora roundhouse and the inbound/outbound tracks at the roundhouse. Road engine crews took power to/from  Hill Yard and depot.

The “herder” was a switchman who worked solo lining power to/from roundhouse to Hill yard. Then spent balance of shift chalking cars at Eola.

Then there was the poor Aurora tower operator trying to keep all these moves plus through freights in three directions and Zephyrs all moving.

Steve, join right in when you’re ready😉

Good tip.  I have the tracks done for the Aurora station but haven’t settled on an operating plan yet.  I’ve modeled the 3 mains plus 4 more tracks around the other platforms plus 2 storage tracks.  I’m feeling compelled to load them up perhaps for the morning rush.  If my hostler isn’t busy he could bring more trains in from the Hill yard (staging).   The next ops session could be the evening rush and bring them all back.
But I have learned that the time to buy is when they’re selling.

Don,

Just model middle of the day. Run two and three car trains with nothing at the Aurora depot or Hill yard as it’s all in Chicago being serviced for evening rush.😎

Dear Rapido Customer,

Live from Union, Illinois, it's Saturday Night Monday Midday! We're at the Illinois Railway Museum with three HO and two N scale announcements! So, without further ado, Rapido News 157...starts...right...NOW!

NEW! HO Scale Budd Gallery Cars - CB&Q/BN/Metra Versions

Now that you have motive power options, why not announce the Budd gallery cars to go with them? Of course! The only catch is similar to the Commuter E8 Locomotives: we will roll out the full launch later this fall.

Until then, there is still plenty to be excited about! Let's take a look at some of the prototype and features of each.

A more recent view of these cars features the Metra logo plate, the addition of the BNSF logo and removal of the name plates. Some cars would keep their name plates.

Our first run will comprise the CB&Q, Burlington Northern and Metra versions. These are the Head-End Power versions. They will be the perfect match for your HEP E-units and F40s.

But what about Milwaukee Road, Rock Island, and the Metra cars built in the late 1970s, you ask? Based on the success of the first run, we will see if it is possible to do those cars in a second run.

Stay tuned to our upcoming newsletters for more information.

Don't be alarmed if you can't find any ordering info for these new E-units just yet. Look for a full announcement to come later this fall.

Sorry, guys - this newsletter is just the First Section. Look out for a "Second Section" of October's newsletter to arrive next week. That'll include all sorts of order deadline info and the usual new samples and factory updates.

Until then, regards from the IRM!
