The very first AMD-103 was built in Europe at least the monoque shell carbody....Either it was Sweden or Germany that built the very first AMD103 locomotive shell under contract from GE and was flown to Erie, PA where it's innards was added. The rest of the Genesis units were built in house by GE in Erie IIRC. There was an article in Trains Magazine in the mid 1990's documenting this unusual flight.

Amtrak's very first "Genesis" unit was shipped by cargo jet to the US from Europe roughly around a similar timeframe as the Irish Rail delivery give or take a couple of years.......

I remember reading about that. They flew it to meet a deadline to deliver the first unit of the order. Once that was met, they were free to send the rest by ship.

In 1994, EMD made its most unusual delivery. The first locomotive of an order by Irish Rail, no. 201,  a model JT42HCW was flown from EMD’s London, Ont. plant to Dublin, Ireland in a Russian (Ukrainian) Antonov 124 cargo plane.
