Hi Bill,

I agree 100% that all the GN units would have been dead. I just used "in consist" for the first unit to indicate it was actually coupled to the consist rather than separated by cars. Of course, on my layout no one knows whether the trailing GN U33C is actually dead or alive, although being "dead in consist" is a good excuse to not put a sound decoder in it! :-)

As to Paul's comment about units having to be separated due to the rule book, that may be correct, but I know there is a picture of two SSW SD45's being delivered on the CB&Q in March 1969 that are coupled together in the consist. That photo can be found in Mike Spoor's CB&Q Vol. 4 on page 90.
