Here's one of the 50-footers in color. Note the different location of the lareg Burlington lettering.

Just for the record, here's how the single-sheathed 40-foot boxcars were painted during the Chinese red era. Unfortunately, in this black-and-white view it's impossible to be certain that the car is mineral red and not Chinese red.. The 50-foot single-sheathed
boxes were also kept in mineral red but had room for the large Burlington lettering on their sides. There are a good many color shots of the 50-footers, all in mineral red.

Thanks for the responses so far. I hadn’t heard of Dawn Yard and could find no reference to it but I’ve never been to Kansas City – and I’m unlikely to ever get there – so I accepted what the seller
said at face value. I see that he has added an enlargement of the body of the box car following Hol’s contact with him, although I don’t think it adds a great deal. Colour shift has caught me out before but the other reds appeared about right so I discounted
it.
I like the idea of a sand storage car painted for the occasion, unless more information comes to hand. The paint appears to be very bright, brighter than the other units, suggesting that the paint job was recent.
Next job is to find something on the 50th Anniversary celebrations to see just what took place and where.
