Greg - The BN did not change CB&Q freight car numbers at time of merger in 1970. Since the ballast hopper was donated or sold to your museum by a car shop in the mid-1970s, there's a high likelihood that its CB&Q number will show on the official paperwork if it still exists.
If so, the number will give us its class and from there we can possibly research some representative photos of such cars in the same series during their service lifetime. This will give you options on how you want to letter and paint the car for the museum. Best Regards - Louis

This car came with a lot of cars when the Texas State was starting up in the mid 70s. The whole lot came from a scrap company down here called Southwest Car Parts in Longview, TX. I will check the paperwork on Monday when I'm back in the office. Maybe it has the original number on it. Came with a couple of side dump cars, a GN snow dozer, camp car and other misc. cars.

Greg - If not the specific car number, can anyone in this Group tell from Greg's earlier images just exactly what class ballast hopper this was and then from that what road series of numbers it would've fallen under. If we can get a specific series of numbers, then I, or another Group member, might be able to research a representative photo of such a numbered car.
To my best knowledge, CB&Q freight cars did not have any identifying numbers cast into their frames that would tell us what car this originally was. Trucks would've been changed out at least once over its service life, so no telling there, either. Best Regards - Louis

We have no idea what our original number is. By the time we started restoring it, there was nothing left in the way of paint. Mostly rust and rotted wood. Looks different now. I'm not sure if there is any way to figure out what the original number was. Any ideas?
