There is a slightly better picture of the lettering on page 123 of Mike Spoor's CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger. That car (221561) does not have the Beet Service stenciling on it.

A paint diagram would be great. Or...if anyone has an HO scale decal set I can size it up for the stencils for the full size car. 1:87 is pretty easy to scale up. Also, I get a kick out of lettering full sized cars off their HO scale counterparts.

That’s it but tough to read all the lettering. Does anyone have a paint diagram for these cars?

I’d like to restore with the Everywhere West scheme and Roman style lettering.

The photo of 221691 is a 1960 repaint lettering style in Gothic font. The original was Q Railroad Roman. Restorers will have to decide which font and lettering to use.

Hey guys,

The Texas State Railroad is at the tail end of restoring a CB&Q ballast car. Hard to find any info on it but I’m looking for any info on how to properly letter it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
