Bill,

Thanks for the reminder about the photo of the CB&Q Dubuque Freight House on p.89 in Spoor Color Vol II where Mike followed the C&I line north to the Twin Cities.  Can't recall the number of mornings and afternoons I stood on the station platform in the photo of East Dubuque on p.88 waiting for the Morning or Afternoon Zephyrs while a student at Loras College in Dubuque, IA from 1963-1967.  I couldn't get into a dome seat fast enough to enjoy the trip along the Palisades.

Mike also has a photo of the Depot at Galena Junction.  I have been searching for photos of all structure facades to build a replica of that little, often overlooked depot.  I would greatly appreciate anyone having photos of any side of the depot sharing them.  Looking over the photos in Spoor Color Vol. II always brings back fond recollections of the way things were back then.

Later,  Dave S.    Tucson, AZ

There is a picture in Mike Spoor's CB&Q In Color Volume 2 of the Dubuque Freight House on page 69. Unfortunately, it is the same end that was already posted.

Ted - I have no idea what lettering if any was painted on the other end of the freight house.  Perhaps, fellow Group member Gerald Edgar will know.  Or, have an idea where you could find out.  I think it's safe to say the No. 953 handled both the switching chores in Dubuque and powered the local over the Mississippi River Bridge to East Dubuque and back. I've attached an image dated 1939 showing the 4-6-0 exiting the joint IC-CB&Q tunnel at East Dubuque.  I do not know if the local included a coach at that time for passengers connecting with Q mainline passenger trains, but maybe Gerald will know.  Gerald's our resident expert on the LaCrosse Division and old Chicago Burlington & Northern. Good luck with your modeling project. Merry Christmas - Louis
