Thread-topic: [CBQ] Q Commuter service other than Chgo. ?

The only RTD plans for rail service on former Burlington routes around Denver involve trackage -- or more accurately right-of-way -- of the former C&S subsidiary.  Commuter rail lines have been completed out of Denver Union Terminal (Union Station) north to a point near Utah Jct. and then on up the former C&S main a short distance to Westminster (actually Lowell Blvd. at about 70th Ave.)  At a junction just north of Utah Jct., RTD's Gold Line turns west and parallels the old C&S line to Golden as far west as Ward Rd.  Before it can open, this line is awaiting the successful completion of testing of the high-tech grade crossing protection system that has been mandated for all new commuter rail lines.  RTD's first commuter rail line (from Union Station to Denver International Airport, partially on Union Pacific right-of-way) opened last spring but has been plagued by crossing signal problems and the FRA has given RTD until January to find a solution to the problem.  No additional lines can be started up until the problems are solved.  Eventually, RTD hopes to extend the line from Westminster on northwest to Boulder and up to Longmont along the C&S right-of-way.  In the interest of accuracy I should note that the Q utilized trackage rights over the C&S between Utah Jct. and Burns Jct., just beyond Broomfield, as part of its Lyons Branch operation.  That branch was the only Q trackage out of Denver other than the mainline to Chicago.

My question is why a high-tech crossing protection system is being mandated when the system long used by railroads everywhere works quite well and has for over 100 years.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I wonder if the Denver RTD has any plans on "commuterizing" the former Q lines in Denver.....

The CBQ drew up plans for a Denver commuter service in the 1960's but shelved the idea when the Denver RTD came into being.  My source is a former CBQ employee who took part in the planning.  Norm

I'm sure we're all familiar with the Q's suburban service around Chicago. I'm wondering if the Q operated "commuter service" elsewhere. I ask as there's an item on ebay(152352955929) showing a 60 ride ticket for June 1907 between Liberty,MO and
KC. I seem to recall reading about numerous daily runs between Deadwood and the mines.
Could  Denver,St Paul, etc might be likely locations for daily short run service ?
