When discussing vehicle colors, it is important to specify the calendar year(s) associated with color reports, as well as the model year(s) or the vehicle reported.

The BLI hi rail car was a 1929 Ford. Apparently they were painted in railroad colors if you believe BLI. B&O Blue, Illinois Central Orange, UP Yellow, CP Maroon, and some in black. The problem with their CB&Q release is that nobody knows for sure what color it was, because no photos of that model year have surfaced. The BLI color choice for the Q release was based upon a 1940 something model year photo, and it was definitely not black. It probably wasn’t a very light gray, either,  but that’s what BLI released for the 1929 car.

Paul

Sorry for the delay but was in Texas playing with the grand kids.

The Dump Truck at the Montgomery Sheep Yard was a  Dark Blue Chevy while the feed truck was orange but I think that was owned by the sheep co.

Like Henry said, “You can have any color you want, as long as it’s black”.

The early inspection cars (like nearly all early Fords) were black. The later ones (at least the ones I saw) were maroon with white numbers.

This raises the question as to exactly what color the CB&Q Broadway Limited Inc. Hi Rail car actually should be. They issued it in light gray paint with white lettering upon the learned advise of one of our own, however that someone has since disavowed that opinion. So was it black, maroon, or mineral red?

Just a small point, but almost  all the pickup trucks were assigned the mechanical department, not MOW. I have 1957 and 1959 automotive equipment assignment sheets, which I will check when I get moved into my new home, in "the near future". I know, later some "crew cab" pickups were assigned to the track forces and at least some of those were painted orange. I do not recall any company service trucks being painted mineral red but some cars, Hi-Rail sedans and station wagons were maroon with white lettering. The Stores Department 1950 stake bed Chevy truck at Centralia was dark green.

Of course this varies by year - I know early (pre-1959?) colors used
were Mineral Red. Then my understanding of pics and what I've read
indicates the orange color was adopted up until the merger that
created BN when the color was changed to brown(?).

However, Classic Metal Works recently released a Burlington MOW 1960
Ford pickup in HO painted green! When I contacted them on the color
suggesting they check with the BRHS on its authenticity, I received
the following response from them:

"Paul - We did in fact receive prototype information from the CB&Q
Historical Society. Jim Goodin provided us with photos and official
diagrams. According to him the CB&Q used primarily dark green
vehicles... however there were some orange vehicles in fleet."

This shocked me as I have been following and modeling the "Q" via
several sources over the past 25 years and don't recall ever seeing
this color mentioned or in a photo. I am modeling the "Q" in the late
1960's and would like to use the correct color scheme on my MOW
equipment. Can anyone in the group here comment on this or the above
message. Thanks!
