The Newberry won't give you a strange look when you ask for copies, but there are some oversized items that they won't copy. An example is a large folded linen or blueprint. Their copier only goes to 11" x 17" I think, and they have to send large items
out to reproduce. If an item is folded and, in their opinion, can be damaged while trying to print it, they will decline to make the print.
They will let you take photos with a camera or phone, and I have done this with oversized items that can't be sent out.
I have never paid to have a large item copied, so I don't know what that charge would be. For the 11" x 17" copier, I believe they still charge $1 set up fee per document, plus 40 cents per page, plus postage if they have to send it to you.

Thanks for your suggestion. I just spent three days in St. Paul at the Minnesota Historical Society going thru the NP company records and wondered at the time where the CB&Q counterpart was kept. After looking at the list of records kept at the Newberry, it
looks similar.
One of the limitations I found at the MHS is that they aren't really equipped for scanning or copying maps. When I asked they said they can send them out, but he process sounded like it was more for photos and was going to be very expensive. Too bad, because
they have some fantastic old blue prints.
Even though I wasn't looking for maps in St. Paul, I did did see that a lot of the files included a small piece of a blueprint in order to illustrate a point being made by some railroad officer. These were a lot easier for them to deal with to make photocopies.
If I did find a map at Newberry, would I get a strange look when I asked about copies?

I found a bunch of stuff but more new puzzle pieces (questions) than border pieces(answers).
All work has to be done on site and prepare to spend multiple days there.

The first thing I would do is to check the Newberry Library. They have a few (very few) maps of stations that I would call station maps (usually 1" = 100' scale). If you do research at the Newberry, you now must request materials
on-line. One of the features of this allows you to search the CB&Q archives to see what information is available, including maps. I have looked at a few of these maps, but I don't recall if the Newberry has maps for the locations you have listed. I don't
think you have to be at the library to search the records. If you find something you want a copy of, they will do it for a price.
The second thing that you might do is check with BNSF, through their Maps and Records Department. Their map system is completely digitized. Whatever station maps there were historically should still be in existence. They may
be willing to send you a copy of a station map that you want, if you tell them the reason (modeling for instance). I know they used to furnish maps to land surveyors who were looking for right-of-way information. Paper copies from BNSF are probably costly,
perhaps $30 to $50 each, I'm guessing. Whether they now furnish digitized copies of anything, I don't know.

I'm wondering if any of you guys know where I might find historical
station maps for the towns west of Sheridan, WY. I'm familiar with the
Sheridan, Billings and Laurel maps on the Friends of the BN site, but
I'm looking for maps of many of the smaller stations like Kleenburn,
Ranchester, Parkman, Lodgegrass, Crow Agency, Hardin, etc.
