Is there a picture anywhere of this station and was it also used as a freight house?  I think this is the station that was also used by Numbers 47 and 48 that passed through my hometown of Canton Illinois.

John,

Sorry, "Cass" was my error. However, looking at the Official Guide for that time period in 1961, the St. Louis departure station has no name, but is shown as located at Second and Franklin Streets. There is no reference to Carr Street.

Was the station Cass Street?  I thought it was Carr Street.

Bill,
If the train was to Quincy, which side of the
Mississippi did it run on?
The indications I have was that #1 had been cut
back to Hannibal by then, but maybe it went further.

>In August, 1961, I rode a late evening train out of Cass Street station (freight  house? It was much of a facility!) to Quincy. As I remember, the train included several head end cars and one coach. On that date, it was pulled by Silver Charger, #9908. It was the only time that I ever rode behind it. Somewhere, I have some B&W photos taken at the station that evening. I don't recall whether it was Train #1 or not.
