Bill,
If you check the area on Google Maps / satellite view, Franklin Street doesn't exist anymore. Carr St. and 2nd St. are mostly parking lots with I-70 running just to the west. The only rail line in the area is to the east, crossing Carr St. at N. Commercial St. Franklin St. was apparently a couple of blocks south of Carr St. However, today, E. Franklin St. is now Martin Luther King Dr. and in the area around where the Q freight house was, is now the approach to the Martin Luther King Bridge. King Drive is disconnected from the bridge approach by the Edward Jones Dome and convention center. A lot has changed since No. 1 departed the Carr St. station in 1961!

That area of St. Louis was the location of almost all the various railroads freight houses on the west side of the river. The Cotton Belt freight house was almost directly east and across the TRRA tracks from the Burlington. The Q's house had an outside dock with the only example of a small Brownhoist dock mounted derrick I ever saw. Alexander made an HO kit of one like it for years though the Q's didn't have the wood operators cabin included with the model. As I recall, there was concrete between the tracks that served as platforms for the passenger trains and probably trucks unloading box cars.
It's probably been mentioned, but this was also the location used by the steam excursions in the 60's.
