Hello, You should keep in mind the EJ&E was originally built from the coal mines, through Joliet to Spaulding (east of Elgin) and the Milwaukee Road connection to provide the Milwaukee with coal. The EJ&E later built east of Joliet and north of Spaulding, becoming a bypass route and more than just a coal road.
