Hi Ray:
My understanding is that the Atlas-O CZ cars are 21" (true 85' O-scale) and
therefore probably require te O-72 curves (that's 6' diameter). I saw three
Altlas-O flat top 2-rail cars from this line yesterday at the BRHS Spring meet
in Batavia.
Maybe lobby Atlas-O to make some "under scale" CZ cars in their "Trainman" line
that could operate on O-31 or O-42. I think that the market for these
underscale cars would be larger than the market for the true O-scale cars based
on the available space that most modelers have.
Or see if you can find any of existing 15" CZ cars (60' scale, minimum O-31
curves, available from Lionel, K-Line, & MTH) or 18" CZ cars (70' scale,
minimum O-42 curves, from MTH). Plastic CZ & CB&Q cars are also available from
both Lionel (O-31 for sure) & MTH (both O-31 & O-42), buth I have never liked
the flat glass domes (model based on Pullman Standard prototype instead of Budd
prototype) or the silver paint (plated aluminim shines like stanless steel).
Whatever you decide, good luck & keep us informed of your transition.
