These days, do a handful of UP trains still use the ex-CB&Q to KC?  I haven't been on that

or two, but not very many- I would guess there are some more that typically use the CB&Q.

More generally, when I lived in Macomb, IL, 1987-88, there were close to 20 trains per day
on that line out of Galesburg (with probably at least 60% headed to KC, the remainder to St. Louis).  What is traffic like at present?  I would guess traffic to KC is not as predictable as prior to the BNSF merger.

Fred,

No, they use the old Santa Fe mainline to Chicago. I have friend just recently retired from UP that ran those trains to Fort Madison from KC. He liked the run because if your train could keep the speed, the dispatcher would keep the signals green and you would have a fast trip out and back.

According to some BNSF friends, the high-wide loads are sent up the old Q main to Chicago. Another issue is on the old Santa Fe they can run with one crew KC to Galesburg while on the old Q line they need three crews (KC-Brookfield, Brookfield-West Quincy, West Quincy-Galesburg).
