Guys:
The trains running between Kansas City and Chicago over the BN with SP power were SP trains running on trackage rights granted to the SP by the BN in the mid-1980's.  I assume (bad word) that the train crews were also SP.  Maybe some can clear this last point up.  The SP trains originated/terminated on the BRC at Clearing Yard.  As I have stated before this BN/SP agreeement between KC-Chicago is the basic trackage agreement all subsequent BNSF-UP trackage rights are based on.

My guess would be that SP was paying back horsepower hours to BN. In the late 80s and into the 90s, SP was beg, borrow, or stealing any power they could get thier hands on. Living in southern California at the time, I was able to see the most amazing consists. A number of them wouldn't even have a SP unit on them.

There was no power pooling or run-through operation by the Q with the Espee prior to the BN merger of 1970.   Hol

I would be referring to run through going into and out of Chicago. Actual SP diesel going to and from Chicago.
