Pete - Used to hear some good signals over the radio - one old brakeman would holler "go ahead and back up", to which the engineer would ask "which do you want me to do first, go ahead or back up?" Then a funny little conductor would give the following: "Come on back a tad bit", or "give me a skoosh bit more". It was even more fun when the brakeman or conductor didn't like each other very much. A Wymore conductor over the radio for a matter of safety suggested to his brakeman as they were setting out a long string of cars to "make sure they clear the switch OK" , to which the brakeman replied "&%*#$, do think I'M stupid, plus mumble some other obscenities. The conductor who was a good old friend later told me, "Hope they don't put up a tower near here until after he retires". Have a nice day, lot of memories, the hand signals were even funnier> - Richard Kistler ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
