Rupert,

Both Barco and Chicago-Pnuematic made speed recorders for steam locomotives in latter years. Karl's recently posted photos of the cab of O-5A no. 5631 shows a Chicago-Pnuematic recorder on it with a close up in photo #21 of the album. In Corbin's book, "Burlington in Transition", there is a photo of K-2 ten wheeler no. 637 with a speed recorder or indicator driven off the pilot wheel taken in 1919. The brand isn't identified. Both companies continued to make speed recorder/indicators into the diesel era.

I'm aware that Boyer Speed Recorders were being used on the Burlington in 1886 for the Burlington Brake Trials and that the Burlington was still fitting these in 1906, but does anyone know how long this particular recorder was used? Was there a speed recorder in the final days of steam?
