Thanks Charlie, pretty impressive #s for Oswego.

I would agree with your comments about the demise of milk service on the Q near Chicago. As we used to say ,"eight times out" there's an article in Dave's possession on milk service on the C&I/East end based on  what I found in the BRT/UTU files. It documents and explains the demise of the service from the early/mid 20s to the late 20s/early 30s from a dedicated train each way to being combined with local service, etc, etc,.
Interestingly in searching many old ETTS from the same and earlier periods I could not find a dedicated milk train on the mainline but it is clearly shown for the C&I.

Once the dedicated train was taken off and the brakeman on the locals had to handle the milk cans while also working passenger cars is what got the whole file started. It is simply astounding to think it still exists today;80 years after the service pretty much disappeared.

The Oswego  photo in Zephyr 64 really got my attention and now has me on a search for a photo of one of the platforms from Shabbona,Waterman,Hinckley(2), Big Rock,Eola, west of Naperville.........

Leo-

Haven’t received my Zephyrs yet, but here’s a spreadsheet of Milk Receipts I found at the Newberry for August, September and October of 1880 (the only one there, I believe).

The “Milk District” for Chicago extended all the way to Earl at one time but for the period recorded nothing was shipped from further than Plano.  The Q’s milk business went out pretty early unlike the C&NW which had a strong business until the highways got paved in the Chicago area during the 20s and 30s and trucks could take over.
