My Grandma lived in Chicago from 1948 til 1960. Would visit during the summer and road, usually the EB, first trip was on the new domed TCZ for the RR Fair in '48, and one trip on the Blackhawk(heavyweight coach). I do remember seeing GN F-units in North La Crosse yard several times. Don't remember any NP power. Passenger trains would stop to be watered near the North La Crosse (box office/depot). The hose draining racks were still there a few years ago. ....................CY

As mentioned, Mendota-Denrock trains could have easily had GN/NP power in the consist. Prior to the merger however, I don't recall seeing NP power as far east as Clyde.
The attachment shows a post-merger scene at Clyde Diesel Shop in the VERY early days of BN.
