I think I have a 1924 map (not track chart) of the Quincy yard, I will check.

Thanks for your response.  You confirm what I was already thinking particularly in regards to the what the required grade would have been. The only elevation data that I have is from USGS Topo maps and in that area they are very vague about the track elevation in the bottoms area but it appears as though the gradient would be well in excess of 2%.

I have produced a map of the West Quincy - Quincy area showing the routing of the Zephyr-Rocket through Quincy for inclusion in the next Terminal Railroad of St. Louis Historical and Technical Society magazine due out this fall around Thanksgiving and it will feature an in depth account of the Zephyr-Rocket.  While researching the map the presence of the connection was suggested but so far I have found nothing to confirm its existence.  It is a very small detail for the Z-R route map but I do like to make my maps as accurate as I can and besides the almost bizarre layout at Quincy has really piqued my interest & curiosity.  I do not model at present, but if I did this area would certainly have some attractions to include in a layout.  I have a pretty good idea on how the passenger trains operated through here but so far I can only speculate as to how freight traffic was handled.

Do you by any chance have a pre-1960 track chart of Quincy showing either the Galesburg main line or the Carthage Sub in the vicinity of Carthage Jct.?  I would be particularly interested to see the profile elevations.  I do have Hannibal Division charts from 1967 that includes a short piece of the Galesburg mainline across the river with profiles but not the Carthage Sub tracks.
