Leo and Pete,
Leo thanks for doing a search of the file at the Aurora Lodge. Getting the numbers of waycars will helpme determine which numbers I will select for my models as well as just expanding the general information available about waycars and their conductors. There has to be a "gold mine" of information contained within those files. Do the files go back 100 years or more?
Pete thanks for a humorous story. I still miss seeing the waycars at the end of freights.
Later, Dave

Here's a little semi waycar related anecdote....This told me by W. C. Bush who was Asst. Supt at Lincoln somtime in the 1980's...
It was shortly after the "fred" came out and were being put to general use...Bush was out in the yard one day and came across "Sam" a waycar supply man...Bush said..."Well, Sam what do you think about these new freds"....
Sam's reply..."Well, Mr. Bush I think there gonna be all right...They dont give you a lot of s...and they don't always want a bag of ice.

Subject: [CBQ] Waycar Assignments
Dave,
Here's what I found tonight on waycar assignments in the Aurora Lodge files.
Q 13988 on assignment to Condr in C&I pool in July 1934. He came into Western Ave after deliverying stock train to Union Yards and filed grievance for the manner his waycar was handled at Western Ave before going to the waycar track at Cicero.
Another Condr came into 14th St w/silk extra in 1925 but doesnt show his w/c #. with similar complaint about handling.
Q 13841 assigned to Condr in C&I pool in 1947. Also Q 13977 with same assignment. Condr Kenyon transferred while in route at Eola on #97 from 13977 to 13841 as 13977 scheduled to go to shop and 13841 had just returned from shop.
As I mentioned before the files literally bulge with complaints about way car handling at almost all terminals. Unfortunately the men rarely documented the waycar they were in when it was kicked, coupled into at speed, shoved around the yard for hours instead of going to the waycar track, pulled from waycar track hours before needed, not placed near water, fuel, etc, frt cars placed onto w/c tracks, frt cars placed alongside w/c tracks blocking any air movement,etc.etc.etc...........................
The more I read the files the more I appreciate the pool waycars and bad hotels of my days on the Aurora Div.
