Thanks for the information. It was my impression that #9849 "usually" covered those trains.  That's why I still wonder if the photo of it in Burlington referring to it as train #43 is simply mis-identified or mis-labeled.  Likely impossible to know for sure at this date.

According to an article from a local newspaper, #9849 was on trains 109 and 110 on the last day of service as the doodlebug came thru Mendon, IL.

Unfortunately, I don't have a date on the photocopy of the article, but a little searching of other info on the photocopy dates this to 1957, probably Sat Jan 5 or 12, I believe.

By my layout date, though, #43 was off the schedule, so the question was academic.

Dorin's "Everywhere West The Burlington Route" p32 has a picture of train #110 using 9816 headed for Quincy via Carthage in 1952.

9815 - 9818 were imported in brass some years ago.
