See previous post.
Then there is the newer Fish Tower. But Gary is more then likely the only one
who knows about it
Dispatcher control of that signal has changed over the years

Subject: Signal at MP 9.57 (Was [CBQ] Re: Triple Track)
Steve:
I believe you (as the dispatcher) had control of this WB Main 1 signal, did you
not? There were also WB signals on Mains 2 and 3 on the 3-track signal bridge
at MP 9.31. My recollection was that none of these signals had number plates,
so I assumed they were WB holding signals, controlled by the dispatcher.
The signal bridge records show the signal bridge at MP 9.31 as constructed in
1952, so it would have been part of the signal respacing for the cab signals,
and would have acted as WB holding signals for the old yard, probably
controlled
from LaVergne Tower. The cantilever for Main 1 at MP 9.57 was not placed until
1958, so it would have been erected after the new yard was built, and
controlled
by CTC. I alway assumed that it was placed farther west (than MP 9.31) to
allow
more room on Main 1 for switching or doubling out of the yard, without tying up
Main 1 all the way to Congress Park.

To protect the plant at Harlem Ave. After that was gone
To enable you to go to track speed and protect the electric unlock at the east
end of Congress Park Yard.
In most cases the tracks and signals have changed over the years.
There use to be a hand throw crossover at Maple Ave so you could set out off
main 2 eastbound onto the wye at Congress Park. You could bring a dinky up on
main 3 into the station at Congress Park with the lunar and when the crossover
move was complete the cab signals would give him a clear and away he would go
with the freight back together and on the move into the yard right behind him.
5 Years as East End Dispatcher before they messed it all up
All I have to worry about now is getting my tater in.
Keep those Railroad Retirement checks coming

Just curious, what was the purpose of the west bound intermediate(?) signal on
main 1 at mp 9.57?
