Since learning of this wye, I’ve been in touch with a person that is familiar
with current Ft. Madison operations. They confirm that this is the east leg of
the old wye between the Q yard on the K-Line and the ATSF yard. They also
confirm what Bill said about the maintenance of this trackage, it is currently
embargoed for most everything. It definitely will not handle 6-axle power due
to the weight and the track curvature. Therefore, it is doubtful that the BNSF
would never allow the move due to insurance issues.
If there is any freight "interchanged" between the two lines, it would be
extremely rare.
Turning Amtrak’s 5 & 6 on this trackage is virtually impossible without major
upgrades, but if it was tried, it would fun to watch the clean up...

what no one has said yet is you have traverse the foutr track yard of the old
bn in fort madison and going all the way acros the ex santa fe yard as the wye
is a connector tbetween the two yards and was never keep in good shape to
handle the freight-coal or passenger trains of today
