Gerald, I believe that the Stove Works referred to under the Tower 38
entry was the old Rathbone and Sard stove works located on the South
side of Aurora along the Galesburg main. It was located appropriately
enough at the corner of Rathbone and Sard avenue, North of Lyon Metals.
I don't believe it lasted very long but the name lived on because of the
street names. I recall also seeing a reference to a "Stove Works Pot",
possibly a signal. Also near this location on the other side of the
embankment was the Mongomery Sheep Yards, whose history has been so ably
recorded by Steven Holding in past postings and the Burlington Bulletin.

For grins I have pasted a copy of the 1907 Sanborn Map showing the Stove
Works (it may only be visible using the 'enhanced' version of yahoo
messaging...

1900-1909 and now from 1909-1919. Bear in mind however the 1919 TT lists
over 1560 Stations! i.e the approx 80 Stations below are only 5% of the
total PLUS more were added in the same time frame. In both 1909 & 1919
this also include QO&KC and I&StL Stations but am not showing Tabor &
Northern or Rapid City, Black Hills & Western because although both
shortlines were included in CB&Q public TT's for years, they were never
part of the Burlington. (several shortlines only had one RR connection &
that was CB&Q yet just T&N and RCBH&W ever were listed in publics that I
am aware of. Some that never made a Q public TT include Illinois
Midland, Hooppole, Yorktown & Tampico, Bevier & Southern, etc)

WESTBOUND as not listed on the Eastbound Sked, was a Chi to Mendota
local. "Stove Works" must have been an industrial plant as not listed as
a Station in Pass or ETT's that I have - anyone familiar with old Aurora
know what the Stove Works was? Apparently a pseudo-suburban stop &
return trip meant they had to board in Aurora proper)
