Many of the larger combines that were moved West by
the Q were built in Brantford ON by Massey-Ferguson.
For the more modern farmers the Bobcat plant is in
Gwinner ND.
In the Chicago area International Harvester had it's
original plant on the West side. It was switched by
the IN and possibly the C&IW. That in itself was probably
enough to induce CB&Q and AT&SF to buy the IN. They also
had a plant in Melrose Park IL that was switched by the
IHB.
Also owned Wisconsin Steel which was switched by the
CWP&S.
As to Quincy; The Electric Wheel Division of Firestone
was there. They made the steel part of motor vehicle
wheels. They bought the steel, (mostly from Inland),
precut. They loaded it in stacks about 2' high and
crossways in the gon. They were spaced out and ran the
entire length of the car with maybe about 12" between
stacks. They were rather nice looking loads if viewed
from above.
