While we're on the subject...kind of...remember there was a day when there was
no flushing mechanism on the "commode"...The appropriate term was a "straight
pipe"? open directly to the ROW...
That's what we had on the ex Colorado Midland combine on the Rock Port Langdon
and NOrthern and was the usual arrangement on waycars and the combines used on
mixed trains.
Imagine the homestyle "Chic Sale" with a cold updraft.

I would have thought that the slipstream induced by the movement of the cars
would not have deposited said material in a recognizable form directly on axis
of the delivery system.....except when the train was standing in a station or
otherwise stopped...... hence my suposition that it would act similar to the
famous waste products hitting the
rotating reciprocating ventilation device.....
