Mark,
Yes, before the merger and some possibly after. If the painting
diagrams can be believed there was no consensus as to whether
things should be painted Forest Green or Cascade Green.
Even if that distinction can be pinned down there were many
different brands and types of paint. One of the distinctions that
was observed most of the time was that high horsepower, (2000 and
above), and low horsepower units were to be painted with different
types of paint. Most painting locations were not equipped to use any
paint that came along so the situation could never be uniform across
the board. For example West Burlington and Clyde did not use the
same painting method or the same type and brand of paint. There was
a great deal of discussion about this situation but I do not think
it was ever resolved.
Have also noted, (and the same is true today), that new cars ordered
were usually not painted with the same brand paint that was used in
the Railroad shops.

Subject: [CBQ] Re: Special equipment for cars in hide service
Hi Russell,
I've never seen a CBQ boxcar painted forest green. Was this done
near the BN merger?
Thanks,
