Don't forget the shops at Plattsmouth, Neb.. A lot of
cars and locomotives were built and repaired there. Of
course, in later days, it was a shop for BREX (and
National Car), so it built and repaired reefers. In
late steam engine days, Galesburg, Lincoln, Hannibal,
Sheridan, Casper, and even Beardstown did class 3-5
repairs(maybe more points too) with class 1-2
overhauls at West Burlington (and Denver until it
closed). Smaller shops like Centralia did class 3-5
repairs on lighter power like the Mikes and switch
engines. In fairly modern times, it is true that
Havelock was the only shop building freight cars but
heavy overhaul programs were done at several points,
Centralia and Sheridan come to mind. Before WWII,
Galesburg had the "steel car shop" AKA the "steel car
plant" which built freight cars of all types, not just
"steel" cars.
