Bob,
Well said. Personally, as a Railroad Employee, I have not
have had Saturday and Sunday as regular days off at any
time in the last nine years. While I would not expect a
group to tailor their meetings to suit the schedules of
just a few members, the "Not Bothering To Come" statement
is a little extreme.
Since the Society feels it's necessary to distance itself
from this group perhaps it's time to express our opinions
by mail. Inconvenient but reasonable.

Subject: Re: [CBQ] BRHS Calendar............ From the Editor!
I am not one to complain about such things, as has been mentioned, the
calendar has a January page, there are plenty of calendars, and I certainly
don't require the calendar to make appointments or pursue my daily
life. Nor do I not appreciate the Bulletins, nor the Zephyr materials, the
calendar itself or the other material, in fact I have been more than a
little vociferous about the quality of the Bulletins, the editor(s) and, in
general, the BRHS.
Having said that, I really can't see why or how the board members feel that
the members who can not or do not make it to the annual meets are doing so
because they "aren't bothered" to do so. If this is in fact the attitude
and feeling of the board in general than there certainly is a
problem. Because if they can't figure out that there may be conflicts in
life, that there may be people who actually work for a living and can't get
off on those scheduled days, that these meets just might be scheduled at
times that are not convenient or possible for people, that some of your
members are not able or willing to travel (especially in these days), that
you just MAY have people who are members who live a few hundred or thousand
miles away from 'Q' country and they STILL think that it is a case of
simply "bother" then they have a sincere problem.
I have been all along speaking about the need for volunteers, for the
quality of the bulletins, for the society in general. But that statement
really hit me wrong, and it was echoed in other statements from board
members on this list. I let the first one go when it was in relation to
the whole mess about the Bulletins, but this is the second time from
another board member that was not stated as a personal opinion but was
stated as an opinion coming from a board member - there is a difference
that some miss. This, combined with other miscommunication might just mean
there is a problem with communication from the board to the members. THIS
isn't the official list for the BRHS, perhaps it is time that an official
BRHS list *IS* set up for the use of members to hear from our
officers. because, every time I have heard in the past there is a proper
way to contact them, it is person to person or in the annual meeting and it
s becoming readily apparent that some just don't get it - there is a larger
problem than person-to-person and the whole membership simply can not get
to the annual meetings - it is NOT A CASE OF BEING BOTHERED TO GO.
