With the Walthers cars, you will have to take the effort to ensure that the
paint scheme and trucks (and other details) are accurate for the car. That
isn't the case with the Branchline models. Walthers cars are being sold
with names (in decals) that do not match the cars as modeled and include
"fantasy" schemes - so it is incumbent upon the modeler to ensure he/she is
making the right choice (assuming it is important to that individual). The
Branchline cars are correct as far as paint scheme, name and prototype are
concerned. They are also correct in terms of details such as air
conditioning underbody details (something that won't be the case with the
Walthers cars). The trucks are another source of concern on the Walthers
kits as they are not accurate reproductions of the appropriate trucks for
the given cars.

All of which comes down to where you want your convenience. Do you want to
spend the time on the front end or the back end? Or, do you care? If you
don't really care about the detail differences, then a Pullman is a Pullman
is a Pullman and you won't care that the name is not correct for a given
car, or that the car represents an air conditioned car but has a non-air
conditioned car name, or has early trucks, or has trucks that are too wide,
or that has one kind of air conditioning when the prototype car had another.

The real question boils down to: how far do you want to go in terms of
accuracy and how willing are you to accept convenience over
accuracy? Not that the Walthers cars are not accurate - once you pin
down what they are and detail them accordingly after the fact. Neither is
meant as criticism, just as a measuring stick.
