Can't say I know much about C&S-ATSF interchange at Trinidad in the old days
either. Perhaps one of our C&S devotees can enlighten us as to operations and
the history of the C&S equipment in the downtown park.
I can say from experience over the last several years that it's tough to tell
a merger happened. One of the first moves of the new BNSF was an attempt to
consolidate the ATSF terminal at Raton with the C&S (BN by then) terminal
newly built in the industrial park just north of Trinidad. The attempt failed
miserably in the face of union opposition. Also the Raton-based crews didn't
like the idea of driving back and forth across the pass which would cut into
rest
and be a problem in bad weather.
Geographically, operationally and attitudinally, both the C&S and the ATSF
live on.
