For those of you with access to a collection of Trains Magazine, John won't
have to tell the story - it was written up in the mag. A tongue-in-cheek
filing by a railroad for a special tariff for the shipping of (I believe it
was "Yak Fat" rather than "Yak Butter", John, for reasons which will become
clear in a couple of sentences)
Naturally, truckers counterfiled with a challenge that the railroad rate was
unfair and non-competitive, and the whole thing went through the entire
appeals process (just to avoid a precedent for unchallenged rates), with the
RR, the truckers AND the ICC knowing it was all stock car sweepings. The
TRAINS article was illustrated by a delightful cartoon (Gil Reid, maybe)
showing his proposed design for a "Yak Fat Rack Flat", which I was *sorely*
tempted to model at the time. I suspect a search of the Kalmbach magazine
index would give you issue and page.
Did anyone else try modeling a YakFat Rack Flat???
