Tom -
Walthers Decals were seldom very close to accurate. If you need HO or N
scale, you'll want the sets I designed for Microscale a couple of years ago.
There are two sets. One is for the "Superpower" types (4-6-4/4-8-4/2-10-4)
beginning in the early '30s, (which includes the various correct sizes and
different borders [plus the "aeolus" streamliners.] This set is the design
Walthers was attempting to represent. The other Microscale sheet is probably
the one you are referring to, which was used on all other engines up to the
end (except for a handful, including fan-tripper 4960, which, after post-mid-
'50s repaint sometimes got standard GP-7 style logo decals). The tender
herald does have a thinner red border outside the gold outline of the black
rectangle, but back in the days before panchromatic film, red photographed
like black, and in many earlier CB&Q photos, the red border does not show
well.
I think you'll be pleased with the set.
