brokenrail2,

The photo in question is NOT an E7 - it is clearly the E8 9949A.

Again, according to BRHS Burlington Bulletin #10, the 9949B was an E7 that
was delivered with the 2nd batch of E7s purchased in September 1947. Except
for the 9949, all were AB-numbered AA pairs, 9926AB - 9930AB. If you'll
notice, the 9949 was numbered just one number below the C&S E5 9950. It was
also practice of the Q to not give suffixes to single units. Our best guess
is that the Q intended to purchase additional AB-numbered pairs and more
single units and wanted the single units separated by number from the
pairs - hence the choice for 9949. The third group of E7s were 6
AB-numbered AA sets, 9931AB - 9937AB, which supports the theory of the
number separation. However, the single A unit of the batch, 9937A blows a
hole in the theory, unless by the time these were ordered, the management no
longer felt the need to separate the single units from the pairs. Then to
further stir the pot, when the first groups of E9s came between December of
1949 and May 1950, there were 9 AB-numbered AA sets 9938AB - 9946AB with one
single unit, the 9937B! Jim Sandrin, author of BB#10 states that although
numbered 9937B, it was never intended to pair up with the 9937A.

BTW, BB10 shows the 9929A traded to GE for a U30B in February of 1968. It
is not a wreck rebuild.

Jan, go ahead and update the HTML for the roster and let me know when it's
finished.

Dave
