In the Bulletin about the E units, this whole issue is discussed. Most of the passenger trains the Q ran were fairly short at the time (6-8 cars). Experience with the E5's showed 2 units were overkill on such a short train plus it limited the amount of flexibility. Remember a single E5A was ordered to pull the Silver Streak Zephyr which was the typical length Q passenger train. So all future E units were all A units. The same type of events are what killed F unit sales after the GP 7 came about. Bill |
